MIA'S DIARY 2010 -

I am starting this diary exactly 5 mths late, after a birth of our daughter “MIA”. This is the name given to her by her Baba which means “My” in Italian. MIA also means “Rebellion”. Hope she rebels for the right cause.

It was 3 am in the morning when my water broke. We went to the hospital at 8:30 to have a normal delivery. After the checkup doctor said that it has to be an operation. I wasn’t afraid at all. All through the operation I was chanting “Gayatri Mantra”. Later I got to know from my aunt that I was supposed to chant “Maha Mritunjaya”.

MIA was born at 10:05 am on 17th Feb, 2010 Friday. She weighs 3.8kg. As soon as the surgeon took her out from my womb, I heard one of them saying. It’s a daughter born at 10:05. After few minutes, a doctor came to me on the operation table with my daughter all wrapped up in a blanket. I just got a seconds glimpse of her.
The day she was born 17th Feb, 2010 Wednesday

After four days in the hospital we were discharged. We came home all excited with the new member of the family. We got totally busy looking after her.
With MIA, our happiness doubled, it was a sheer joy to watch her grow every day. With her we laughed and cried. She loved to bath and never cried. I didn’t know how to bath her in the beginning. Sometimes it was her nanny and the other times, her Ramani Ma or Fufu Ma. Today I pride myself as I bath her on my own (of course with the help of her Baba and nanny). I don’t think she enjoyed oil massage as much as bathing

Bathing Time =Happy Time

Whenever we had to take her for injections, I never held her as I was really scared to hear her crying. One of my worst time was when we took her for ear piercing, when she was 3 mths old, she cried her lungs out for few seconds after each hit. Wish I had pierced it when she was even younger with needles.

21st June was her Paasni (Rice Feeding Ceremony). It is also my birthday. We wanted Myra to be born on the same day as well, but God had other plans. She was born on the 22nd June. After lots of I confusion, the ceremony got over really well.
The confusion was regarding the birth of Myra, if she was born in the exact date that doctor gave, then bhai (MIA’s mama) would not have been able to attend the ceremony (jhuto laagcha)for 11 days. There was also a saying that if her tooth comes before the ceremony gets over then it would harm her Mama. Luckily her first tooth came after 6 days. We had a small get together of close family and friends on the 9th July in the Chopstixs restaurant in Teku.

MIA’s got many names; I call her “Jaaneman”, which means my life. Both I and her Baba love to call her choru and baba. Mummy and Daddy calls her “bhuntulu” and her Junge Ba calls her “Punti”. Her fufuma calls her “bhuntu” and her aruna di calls her”Bhunti”. Other then all these names she is got quite a few nicknames like; duluwa singh as she likes to go out, baiguni as she is with others till she wants and then sees only me, twale as she stares, ryale etc etc.

Baba took 5 days leave to be with his darling choru from 12th -16th July and luckily another two days got extended. We took her to many places during this week.

KFC

City Center, Food Court with Pooja Ma

Pizza Hut on Mom and Dad’s anni

I have promised myself to write everyday from now onwards. Let’s see how active and regular I could get. If I succeed, then it would be a gift from Baba and Mamu to their darling “Choru” as we lovingly call her.

Culture of Load shedding and Bandh.

"Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness." Chinese proverb

The two most unpolularly popular term that we use in our daily life these days are “Bandh and Load shedding”. These two terminologies have made us miserable and uncertain about our everyday life and of our future. Both have become superfluous rituals, we are unable to get rid of. It could even be referred to as an infectious virus and the victims so loved by them, the common Nepalis, housewives, students, doctors, service holders, drivers, patients, small vendor, big industrialists all powerless spectators, unable to help themselves from getting infected. Nepal’s load shedding and Bandh are having an exceedingly negative effect on industry and the country’s economy as a whole, with losses running into millions if not billions of Rupees. Crises have already been declared in many of the Industries throughout the country. The load Shedding and Bandh is going to have a long term effect in country’s economy. Industry is however not the only ones frustrated with the constant power outages. Long power cuts have sucked the life out of Nepalese. The government has been ensuring that load shedding would be reduced from this month; however they have suddenly increased the schedule without even informing the people. Consumers already suffering from the sixteen hours of load shedding are in for additional dark hours. Mostly metropolitan residents have been badly affected by the load shedding, both in their personal lives and financially. Some people have taken a number of substantive actions to cope with load shedding, with those more likely to have acted being the more affluent by purchasing the equipment to alleviate the effects of load shedding like the inverters and the generators.
The power outages also created serious water shortages in many residential areas as residents could not run their pumps to fill their water tanks. People are also facing problems in ironing their clothes, which caused delays in reaching workplaces or most of the times they just hide the shirts inside their jackets. Many are not able to charge their mobile which further hampers the emergency calls. There are several cases of computer crash due to the load shedding in the organizations as well at homes. The financial impact of power outages on the local IT and Internet industries is difficult to measure, but the negative effects are clear to see for anyone involved in the field. The incidences of robbery and crimes have increased due to dark hours. Hospitals have stopped accepting emergency and injury cases due to the inability to operate their machines. The major sufferers are the students who are having hard time coping up with their exam and their career are affected by the continual load-shedding. Apart from the Industrial Sector, the tourism industry, which has been the backbone of its economy, is the most visible casualty of the power crisis as well as Bandh. The hotel and the restaurant owners are unable to keep up with the demands of power in their work which are pushing away the tourists further from visiting the country.
The paradox of Nepal’s crippling electricity scarcity is that after Brazil, its water resources are the second largest in the world, value an identified capacity of nearly 1,00,000 MW of hydro-power. However, the continual political interference has meant that almost none of that potential is being used. While the ruling Maoists are busy on blaming past governments’ policies for the present power crisis, the main opposition NC and UML blame the Maoists’ opposition to such mega-hydroelectric projects like the Arun III, Seti, Mahakali, and Melamchi. Nepal is emerging freshly from the 11 years of Maoist insurgency which dramatically affected the country’s socio-economic conditions on both the macro and micro levels. The two potential growth areas for Nepal are hydropower and tourism. The insurgency period saw a fall in tourist numbers, but following the comprehensive peace agreement tourist numbers have begun to increase. However, the constant load shedding and the several Bandhs have deep consequence in the number of tourists visiting the country.
If the government could cut down the electricity consumption in the offices of Prime Minister, other ministers and also at the homes and offices of top bureaucrats, may be the load shedding could be reduced to a considerable amount. As of now, we could only wait and pray for the day when Nepal is going to be the load shedding and Bandh free country, hope real soon.

Mom, I love you

In lasting Memory of my MOM…

Capitulate in your love, we feel alive
Our joy lies in your arms, in your poignant care
Time was always with us, but was not our faith
Helpless, we watched you aching but smiling everyday

Showering your blessing, with eyes tight and close
Lying on the bed, you appear, divine, oh so great
Waiting for the miracle, innocent in our prayers
Reverieing of the wonderful togetherness once again

Our heart cries, for the fearless moment
Awaken, you shall embrace us all
Wide awake, I get up from my nightmare
Needs in my heart, to be cuddled in your arms

Lost in the sea of dreams, hoping to meet you someplace
Walking through the path, always shown by you
Each time I fall apart, I hear your voice strong and clear
Together we have crumbled and escalated in each others arms

Thoughts of your sweetness feel the void in my heart
Oceans of tear blinds my eyes, wish I could only see you through
Away you went in the land of dreams, spreading love everywhere
Lucky, angels to find your love, so pure and oh so great

Heaven is there, where, the soul of yours
Reinforcing love everywhere
On this day and this time you are missed the most oh dear mother
You were and will always be my great companion and my strength.

Finally made it to the mid way

I have been so lazy all this time. Not even writing in the blog. My little article made it to the mid way in The Himalayan Times Today. Just wanted to Share it with all.

EDITORIAL

MIDWAY:De-stressing at work

Shirisha Amatya (Rajbhandari)
No one in life wants to be stressed but almost everyone is. Young or
old, students or professionals, gay or lesbian, and worker or employer, everyone has no choice but to face the fact that once you are born, stress is life-long companion.
However, knowing your competence is a good way to balance your life. Right work at the wrong time doesn’t make sense. All people work, there are only 24 hours a day. It could be a foolhardy to think that you could finish everything in one go. While at work, stressing oneself with all the deadlines and tension would only make matters worse. Leisure, wellness, fun, and stress reduction are all essential part of any productive routine. Feeling stressed at work may even be making you sicker than you ever imagined. No one but you are a better person to look after yourself. The key to success is finding what works best for you. Find out what is that particular technique that helps you to keep stress at bay.
There are several ways to de-stress while at work. Having hobbies helps in de-stressing and
also spending time doing something which is enjoyable to you. Instead of working constantly, take time off to do something you love, like decorating your space or just taking a walk in a corridor.
As for me the best way to relax while working is taking a break in between and surfing the internet for news, blogs, etc . I also de-stress myself by gossiping with my friends in between work. It helps me to loosen up. We won’t ever eliminate stress completely, but we can learn ways to deal with it. From the past few months, I have found surfing a Facebook to be a de-stressing technique while at work. It helps me connect and share with the important people in my life. It is right now the new de-stress destination in town.
Most importantly, in getting rid of stress at work is to do the work that you love. Don’t be the one who stays stuck in the work they hate. This is the worst thing you could do to yourself and also to your employer. Find out what you’re passionate about and then go for it. If that means studying new skills, or finding out more information about how to get into your chosen field, then get started now. It’s better late than never.

Visit to the Taj Mahal...

Sunset in Taj Mahal

There is a sayin' that what people don't want, they will be forced to do the same...and whatever a person wants from inside the heart, they get so...hahah that's what happened to my husband and myself. Always used to say, I don't wannna visit India blah blah...and I always wanted him to take with me to various places in India, as I have spent many years of my life studying there. I always wanted to visit Taj Mahal with him as it is considered the epitome of love... and at last love conquered and we visited Taj Mahal...last week. even if I was unable to show him the university where I studied or few other places that i wanted him to see...I am happy that its just the beginnin' and we would get lots of such opportunities in the future. However for now I am content and happy...

Life's like this..........

Sometimes i feel so excited and happy to be doing what i am doing and sometime its so frustrating that I have so much to do and don't know what to do and how to do it. Life is short, everyone says ...I really don't know if its short or we are just not organized. This small brain like a distant star needs to think like a open sky. How do we manage it?? Amazing'!!People and their perception changes all the time. Sometimes I feel helpless, when I am unable to help. I know it is my own cowardliness, or else what is stopping me to help. Just my LAZINESS...God help the flood victims. it is so horrible, why us ...but again i think and think hard...its always us...only the place and the type of disaster is different...but the sufferers are always US and will always be US
